A source has confirmed to ProSoccerTalk fifa 16 coins that Andrea Pirlo and New York City FC are in talks over a deal to bring the Italian legend to Major League Soccer in the coming weeks.

Pirlo has been a long-term target for New York City for months and when the World Cup winner was spotted at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, the rumor mill started to churn.

PST's source has confirmed that Pirlo is in talks with NYCFC but there is still a way to go in negotiations, however New York City are targeting Pirlo's arrival to coincide with that of incoming Designated Player Frank Lampard who will be available to play his first game for the MLS club on July 13 against the Montreal Impact. NYCFC want to get this deal done.

Various reports suggested that Pirlo may stay at Juventus until the end of his current deal in 2016 but the source confirmed to PST that if things can be ironed out in the coming days, then the Italian national team icon could suit up in MLS as soon as June 13 alongside Lampard and David Villa.

Pirlo, 36, took in a New York Yankees game on Sunday vs. the Detroit Tigers as he has property in NYC and is currently on vacation in the Big Apple with his family. Making a move to leave his beloved Juve, where he reinvented himself as a deep-lying playmaker on the way to Juve's four-straight Serie A titles and a fine run to the UEFA Champions League final last season, will obviously be a tough decision for the man who won the UCL with AC Milan twice earlier in his career. But it would be incredible to see Pirlo, Lampard and Villa all in the same team and ripping it up at Yankee Stadium.

Ahead of the first-ever New York City derby at Yankee Stadium between NYCFC and the Red Bulls on Sunday, unveiling Pirlo's arrival would be a rather large feather in the cap of the club owned by the City Football Group as they've started to acclimatize to life in MLS with three wins on the spin. However, PST believes that Pirlo's arrival is still a matter of weeks rather than days from being rubber-stamped.

The expansion franchise boasts the fourth-highest attendance in MLS in 2015 with an average of 27,739 fans turning up and the potential of Pirlo's arrival, and definite arrival of Lampard next month, will only boost those numbers further. NYCFC's home crowds have put on quite the party in its debut season as a club.

But as the saying goes from the man himself: "No Pirlo, no party."
